Yukima Payne BA/BSc Graduates at La Trobe University


Bachelor of Arts / Bachelor of Science: Yuki happily holds her double-degree in the lovely gardens of La Trobe University.



Congratulations from Grandpa: Yukima's grandfather Sir Norman Payne flew from his UK home to be with her on this special day. Yukima is the first of his six grandchildren to graduate university.

Yukima Payne feels fantastic after a perfect spring graduation ceremony at La Trobe University, Bundoora Australia where today she was admitted into the double Bachelor of Arts / Bachelor of Science degree.

The tempestuous spring weather paused its morning hailstorm and sunny blue skies peeped out for the happy afternoon occasion.

Yukima began her tertiary studies at La Trobe in 1996. During the following six years she enjoyed a round-the-world trip (1997) and a year studying on an international exchange program with Tachibana University in Kyoto Japan before completing her final year in 2002.

“I chose the double Arts/Science degree because it allowed me to follow my diverse interests in both the arts and science fields” Yukima said today. While packing-in two degrees at once meant Yuki had to study extra-hard, she managed to cover her majors in Media Studies, Japanese, Botany and Biochemistry with great success and was invited to undertake honours years in all four areas.

“I am very pleased to have been offered honours in all these areas, but I want to take a break from academic life for the moment and experience some new facets of life” she said. Yukima is currently working as a project administrator for the engineering firm KBR in the heart of Melbourne's CBD.

Yukima's grandfather Sir Norman Payne visited Melbourne from his Guernsey, Channel Islands UK home especially to be present for the occasion.

"It was so lovely to see grandpa, and especially nice because we were also able to share his 82nd birthday with him yesterday. It was also very special for John to finally meet him" Yukima said today.

Yukima's brother Seiki Payne, her father Tim Payne and her partner John Cameron also attended the La Trobe ceremony today. Due to drastic shortages of the number of available tickets to the event, Yukima regrets that she was unable to invite her other many important family members and friends.

"I wanted to invite so many more people, so they could help me celebrate this day, and thank them for the generous love and support so many have given me to help me through my university years and the times before" Yukima said.

Brother Seiki drove from his engineering undergraduate internship at the Ford factory in Geelong and was very happy to be there today.

"Its a momentous occasion for Yuki and our family. We're extremely proud of her".

I am the daughter of the late Beryl Morton, your father Tim, will know of me as our mothers were great friends. I met Tim when your grandparents lived in Shamley Green, UK. I live in Newfoundland, Canada and have two sons. Oil exploration is big here! Well done on you B.A./B.Sc.(Hons.) sounds like an interesting program, by now I am sure you have a Master's too! I have education degree from Memorial University of Newfoundland ... one of my sons has Business degree ..
