A big hello from Tasmania! Two

6 May 2004

Hi again!

Today I write from Sorrel, 30 minutes away from Hobart.

After we left Deloraine on Tuesday, we continued on heading east to St Helens through Launceston on a beautiful but very windy road with stunning views and rainforest blanketing the hills.

In St Helens, we went for a lovely walk along the esplanade together and enjoyed the chilly, fresh sea air.

We also stopped and bought a small block of deliciously well matured Tasmanian cheese direct from the farmers tasting-shed -- a cheese-lovers delight! (I thought of Virgil).

We then drove south along the coast listening to lovely Irish folk music on the radio which suited the Irish scenery (or so we thought) until we reached Bichino where we found a nice Bed & Breakfast to stay the night in.

For dinner I introduced Zayda to souvlakis which we enjoyed greatly with a drop of Baileys.

On Wednesday we arose very early (before sunrise) and drive until we reached the stunningly beautiful endless white beaches of the Friendly beaches near Freycinet National Park, where we stopped for a brief walk.

We continued our travels stopping at the natural feature, the Tessellated Pavement near Eaglehawk Neck. from here we found some more accommodation for the night and spent 3 hours of the afternoon exploring Port Arthur -- enjoying a guided tour of the ruins and a boat cruise of the bay.

Last night we had a counter meal for dinner at a hotel not far from our Bed & Breakfast.

This morning we again arose early and were thrilled by the spectacle of The Blowhole, The Devils Kitchen and Tasman Arch -- all wonderful features of the coast.

This was followed by a few more hours spent exploring Port Arthur, a fascinating and moving place steeped in history. A brief look at the nearby coal mines was followed by the drive back into Sorrel where we have just had a nice lunch.

This afternoon we will explore the town of Richmond... apparently very beautiful!!!

All our love till next time,

Felix and Zayda!
