Welcome to 'Little Smaso'!

Virgil and Julie's little baby has surprised the world by arriving three weeks ahead of schedule!

The beautiful little baby girl was born in Oslo on Saturday 1 July. She has dark hair and weighed 2.9kg (6.4 pounds) at birth.

Photo by Virgil Cameron - Click to enlarge Julie was able to spend most of the labour at home, assisted by the award-deserving help of the stellar birth team, Virgil and Wenche Viklund. Upon arrival at the birthing centre after many hours at home, the birth team discovered that, to their surprise, the baby was very nearly ready to be born -- so much of the labour had already passed! After several more hours and hard work by Julie, Little Smaso (the nickname by which she has been known by Virgil's family) was born into Julie’s own hands.

Twenty-four hours after the birth, in a phone interview from the Oslo Alternative Birthing Centre where the new family were staying, John and Yuki Cameron asked Virgil how the new family feel when they look at their Little Smaso.

"Julie feels amazed, and I feel extremely, kind of 'humbly proud', as Mutti would say."

Virgil continued, with the gentle cries of a baby in the background, "and it's an indescribable feeling, to think that this is our little baby. This tiny little, cute little clump, this is our little baby! We’re still getting to know her, and she is getting to know us."

Later Virgil described how Little Smaso was sleeping peacefully.

"She has now her hand up on her face, and she’s just curling her fingers and caressing her own cheek as she sleeps... She’s got the cutest little fingernails in the world! Oh, its extremely wonderful!"

Grandmother Lee Cameron, who was planning to attend the birth as a birth helper, will still fly to Oslo on Thursday 6 July, to spend six weeks with the new family. Luckily Virgil, Julie and Wenche had all attended Lee's birth-preparation classes in Melbourne, and were able to manage fantastically through the labour thanks to Lee's advice.

Perhaps this too, but I am running short on dictionaries these days)that Julie, that is almost like a sister to me, have gave birth to a little wonder. I know that it is Julie and Virgil that are supposed(wrong again?)to be proud of their daughter, but I just can´t help to be proud of them too. Endless congratulations to every relative and friend all over the world, from Australia to U.S.A. to Norway and so on(thats the only locations I know about where we have relatives, correct me if I´m wrong). Still I haven´t had the chance to see the baby, but I hope to see her soon.
