Bon Voyage to Virgil and Maria

18 July 2003, Bangkok airport: Maria and Virgil wait for a connecting flight to Heathrow, London, after a nine hour flight from Melbourne. Fifteen hours of flying time still remain before the travelers arrive in Milan, Italy.

Hello Everyone!

I haven't really had the chance to tell anyone yet, but I left on Friday 18 July to go overseas for seven months.

I'm currently in Oslo, Norway, with my sister Maria, and I will be staying in this beautiful city for the next five months.

Maria and I both received scholarships --of different sorts-- from La Trobe University, to study overseas for one semester. We will both be studying in Scandinavia, at two different universities. I will study at the University of Oslo and Maria will be at Malmö University in Sweden, about eight hours car travel from Oslo. We'll be about five to eight hours drive away from each other, so that

This should be a very interesting experience for us both, and we look forward to the next five months!

Before arriving in northern Europe, Maria and I took the opportunity to visit some friends in sunny Italy for two weeks, to soak up the precious sunshine before a possibly cold and dark Scandinavian winter.

I took lots of photos and Maria wrote a lot while in Italy, and we will be publishing a collaboration of our adventures right here in the pages ofVirgil's Diary.

I will continue to take many photos while studying in Norway (and also whilst traveling with Maria to the USA in early 2004), so I hope you can keep in touch with us through this website, www.virgilsdiary.com.

Naturally, I'm traveling with my super-duper digital camera and a newly acquired super-duper notebook computer, so I'm well equipped to keep you all updated with the cultures, fashions, politics, lifestyles and adventures to be had in Scandinavia.

So, a happy five months to you all from me. I hope to hear from you sometime soon, and I hope you enjoy Virgil's Diary during the upcoming season of exciting travel adventures!

I will continue to send email updates to you when I update Virgil's Diary, so if you would like to receive these emails, please send me an email to subscribe to the Virgil's Diary Newsletter

All the best!

Love, Virgil

11:25AM 13-Aug-03: John Cameron: More More! I want to read more! Lovely!!!

11:27AM 13-Aug-03: John Cameron: Gosh, I thought Bangkok was an interesting place, but I didn`t think that they had the airplanes INSIDE the building with the people. What a novel idea, I should tell Air Madagascar about it. Or perhaps its just another of Virgil`s amazing photos.

11:41AM 13-Aug-03: David Cameron: Maria looks pensive as she waits at the Bangkok airport but does she realize she's about to be swept up by an approaching airliner on the loose inside the terminal building??? Reminiscent of Rowan Atkinson's hilarious skit about Tom, Dick and Harry who were mercifully unaware of an approaching combine harvester. Relieved that you both arrived safely in London.

4:58PM 13-Aug-03: Lee Cameron: Thanks Virgil with lots of love from Mutti

5:46PM 13-Aug-03: Virgil Cameron: Hey, that aeroplane is OUTSIDE the terminal building! I had no idea that it would attract so much attention from all you avid readers :-)... I'm glad you enjoy the articles! Keep up the lovely comments!

9:47PM 14-Aug-03: Maria Cameron: Dad, your comment made me laugh out loud as I read it, and even more as I read further...everyone on the surrounding computers in one of Malmö Uni's five libraries looked up in surprise!
