Angelica departs Melbourne for world trip

Angelica Cameron left Melbourne on Friday 26 March for a round-world trip in which she will spend a semester as a student exchange in the Graz Rudolf Steiner School in Austria.

Angelica's first destination on her trip is Vietnam, where she is currently spending two weeks with family friends Miho and her daughter Neha, who traveled to Vietnam from their home in Japan, to meet Angelica.

Following Vietnam, Angelica will head to Graz, Austria, to meet her host family and travel within Europe before the school semester starts after the Summer holidays. She will be staying with the family of Arno Muchtwich, an exchange student who has been staying with David and Lee Cameron for the past several months.

Shortly after her departure, Angelica sent her first dispatch to Virgil's Diary, via an internet connection in Singapore International Airport.

It is me!!!!!!! I am at a free Internet stand in the hot, humid, sticky Singapore airport. I guess i just made it sound not very nice, but it isn't so bad... It was just a surprise to find this kind of weather after leaving Melbourne in the middle of a mild breezy night.

Enough about the weather... My first flight has been good, thank you all so much for the wonderful messages and letters you wrote for me, Mum I have saved my letter from you for the next flight, and I have been making my way slowly through all the beautiful love-filled pages of my journal book.

Dad, my eyes are as wide open as I can keep them, considering it is 10 past nine Melbourne time, and here it is 10 past 6, and I haven't had more than about an hour of disturbed sleep...

No real culture shock has hit me yet, but I'm sure that will come later, in Hanoi. Here in this huge international airport, I am well sheltered from the outside world; consumerism is constantly in my face, but all I have bought so far is a few more batteries for the digital camera, to ensure a good lot of pictures to put here on Virgil's diary!

The world is truly my oyster. :-) It is strange to think that right now, all my friends are sitting down to a prac in Trish's chemistry class, while I am here, a quarter of the way around the world.

I love you all very much, as you well know, and could somebody please make sure that those family members without internet access are given a copy of this to read!
