The view of the garden at 19 Strasbourg Road, Rosanna. Tomatoes,
corn, zucchini, carrots, parsnips, silverbeet, rhubarb,
grapes, celery, herbs and sunflowers are just some of the
healthy plants surviving remarkably well in the summer heat
of one of Melbourne's driest and hottest summers.
This garden is tended by John and Virgil Cameron and Yukima
Payne and by various other visitors and guests who time
to time feel compelled to contribute their energy in a therapeutic
gardening session.
The garden has appeared in many shapes and forms over the
past five years. Initially a grassy weed-infested lawn,
the back yard of the Rosanna house has been transformed
into a thriving vegetable and flower garden since John and
Yukima moved into the house in late 1997.
Since then birds have made their homes in the lush vines
of the passion fruit bush and worms have thrived in the
garden soil and compost heap, rejuvenating the back yard
into a healthy little ecosystem.
